Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed addressed past criticism of former President Obama during an NBC "Meet the Press" interview Sunday, saying Democratic candidates now "stand on the shoulders of giants," according to The Hill.

Host Kristen Welker asked El-Sayed about a 2012 op-ed in which he expressed dismay over what he called Obama’s "failures," the Washington Post reported. El-Sayed said in the NBC interview that the earlier comments reflected his youth. Welker also asked whether the country was ready to elect a Muslim president. El-Sayed replied that he was not considering that question and said Michigan was ready for a Muslim senator, Fox News reported.
