The LIV Golf Team Championship, initially scheduled for Michigan at the end of August, has been canceled and moved to Indianapolis. This decision follows weeks of uncertainty regarding the event's status and comes after LIV Golf announced a new investor to support the league through 2027. The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which previously funded LIV Golf, stated in April that it would only finance the league until the end of the 2026 season. However, the rescheduling of the championship suggests continued financial support.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil commented on the season's conclusion, highlighting achievements such as record crowds and marketing support. He emphasized the league's transition to a new model that will be player-owned and focused on sustainable growth. The Indianapolis event, scheduled for August 20-23, will serve as the season finale.
O'Neil also mentioned that a lead investor has been secured to support the league's future, with plans for players to become majority equity holders. The 2027 LIV schedule is expected to include 10 events, with five in the United States and five internationally. Recent reports indicated that preparations for the Michigan event had not commenced, marking it as the second cancellation of the 2026 calendar, following the scrapping of LIV New Orleans in June.
