A 17-year-old boy from Acton, Massachusetts, has been charged with the murders of his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his younger brother, Siddharth Aravind, 14. The boy, Arjun Aravind, was arraigned on two counts of murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of assault and battery in Concord District Court. He has pleaded not guilty and is being charged as an adult.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan reported that investigators found concerning online activity related to the use of ChatGPT, where Aravind allegedly explored violent scenarios involving his family. The bodies of the victims were discovered at their home on Martha Lane after a well-being check was requested by Aravind's father, who was unable to contact them.
Authorities indicated that both victims suffered blunt-force trauma, and evidence suggested a violent struggle occurred in the home. The official causes of death are pending further examination. Aravind was apprehended in his mother's vehicle in Wayland, Massachusetts, early Wednesday morning. He had received medical treatment for injuries to his hand prior to his court appearance. A mental health evaluation has been requested by his attorney, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for September 11.
