Representative Max Miller (R-OH) informed an Ohio judge that he might miss court hearings related to a civil protection order he filed against his ex-wife, citing the narrow majority of his party in the House of Representatives. Miller filed for the emergency civil protection order in February, alleging harassment from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, who has accused him of abuse, claims he denies.
During the court proceedings, Miller expressed his commitment to attend hearings but mentioned the challenges posed by his chaotic job situation and a partial government shutdown. Court transcripts indicate that his lawyer interrupted him, stating, "Max, nobody cares." At that time, the government was experiencing a partial shutdown due to funding disputes.
Miller is currently facing a custody battle with Moreno, who is the daughter of Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH). Despite the allegations against him, Miller has stated he will not withdraw from his reelection campaign, although support from his colleagues has diminished amid the ongoing legal issues.
In response to Moreno's allegations, Miller has released documents to defend himself, which included a controversial photo of their daughter. Moreno has since filed a lawsuit against Miller for allegedly releasing the photo without consent. The allegations against Miller include serious accusations of physical abuse, which he claims are politically motivated. The civil protection order he sought was dismissed five months later when he stated he no longer felt threatened. Miller filed for divorce in August 2024, with the separation finalized in December 2025, shortly before the allegations surfaced.
