Troy Jackson, a Senate candidate in Maine, has acknowledged his involvement in a violent incident from March 1988, which has recently come to light through police records. At the time, Jackson was 19 years old and reportedly kicked in a door and assaulted another man after being asked to leave a residence. According to the Fort Kent Police report, Jackson grabbed the man by the throat and struck him, resulting in a minor injury. The altercation ended when a friend intervened. Jackson stated, 'I took responsibility for it then, and I take responsibility for it now,' while emphasizing that he has never been violent with his partner, Lana Pelletier.
The police report also includes an allegation from Pelletier, who reportedly claimed that Jackson had 'pushed her around' after the incident, but she has since disputed this statement, asserting that it is inaccurate. Jackson resolved the misdemeanor assault case by paying the victim $50, and a background check revealed no other criminal record.
The timing of this revelation is significant as Jackson has recently become the Democratic Party’s nominee in the race against Republican Senator Susan Collins. Jackson has faced scrutiny regarding his temperament, including a 2021 incident where he threw a water bottle during a legislative dispute, although he later apologized for that action.
