U.S. Marine Robert Gilman Returns Home After Over 1,600 Days in Russian Custody

U.S. Marine veteran Robert Gilman has returned to the United States after spending more than 1,660 days in Russian custody. Family representative Kieran Ramsey reported that Gilman is in a frail condition and unable to walk off the plane independently. He is expected to require extensive mental, psychological, physical, and dental care as he begins his recovery. Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, who was involved in advocating for Gilman's release, stated that the details of Gilman's health condition are still unclear and attributed his suffering to actions by the Russian government, including allegations of physical torture and forced medication. Ramsey noted that Gilman's case reflects a broader trend of Russia targeting Americans, citing other cases of detained U.S. Marines, and urged for the release of remaining American detainees. He expressed hope that former President Trump and special envoy Steve Witkoff will assist in securing the release of those still held abroad.
