Michele Tafoya wins Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Minnesota

Michele Tafoya, a former television sports reporter, has won the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate in the Minnesota primary election, according to projections by CBS News. She will compete against Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, who secured the Democratic nomination. Tafoya announced her candidacy in January, stating that Minnesota was 'in a crisis.' Her campaign platform includes measures to stop fraud, support law enforcement, reduce costs and taxes for the middle class, and restore 'courage and common sense.' After her projected win, Tafoya commented on issues such as fraud and declining test scores, stating, 'Minnesotans are beaten down by this fraud. $9 billion was stolen from all of us taxpayers.' She emphasized her commitment to represent all Minnesotans, stating, 'We're going to fight for them.' Tafoya won against a competitive field, including Adam Schwarze, a former Navy SEAL and Marine, who was endorsed by the Republican Party of Minnesota at its state convention in May.
