Democratic groups are increasing their efforts to challenge Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio), who is seen as a vulnerable incumbent. Phil Gardner, a spokesperson for the Blue Dog Action Fund, stated that the group spent nearly $200,000 to support Miller's Democratic opponent, Brian Poindexter, in the primary. Gardner indicated that they are prepared to invest again in the general election.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has added Poindexter to its "Red to Blue" program, which supports Democratic candidates in competitive Republican districts. DCCC spokesperson Riya Vashi noted that the momentum behind Poindexter suggests that Ohio's 7th district is a strong pick-up opportunity.
Polls indicate that Poindexter is leading Miller by eight percentage points among likely voters in the district. The survey, conducted from August 7 to 10, shows Poindexter at 43% and Miller at 35%. Miller has denied allegations of domestic abuse that have surfaced during the campaign.
In response, Miller expressed skepticism about the Democratic efforts, stating that Poindexter would not win the general election. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) criticized Poindexter's platform as being out of touch with the district's voters.
