Golden Dome director Gen. Michael Guetlein stated that the project seeks to create a defensive shield capable of adapting quickly to new aerial threats by cutting bureaucratic red tape and fostering innovation through partnerships. He emphasized the importance of connecting commercial innovation with national defense to expedite the deployment of critical technologies.
The new portal will provide defense companies with transparent demand signals and real-time visibility into the capability gaps of the Golden Dome. The focus areas outlined on the portal include advanced sensors, weapons systems, space systems, command and control, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and more.
The Golden Dome initiative, initially announced by President Donald Trump, aims to enhance homeland defense against various missile threats through a comprehensive system of sensors. The project is estimated to cost $185 billion, with some reports suggesting total costs could reach $1.2 trillion over 20 years. Guetlein has expressed concerns that a continuing resolution from Congress could hinder funding for the project, which has been allocated $24 billion for fiscal 2026 and an additional $17.5 billion for fiscal 2027.
