However, the ongoing conflict has united the Ukrainian populace and led to significant military reforms. Despite Russia's initial expectations of a swift victory, it has struggled to achieve military success, facing high casualties and resource expenditures.
Ukraine has effectively countered Russia's numerical advantages through innovative tactics, particularly in drone warfare. The use of drones has become a pivotal aspect of Ukraine's military strategy, enabling it to target Russian infantry and logistics, and disrupt supply lines. Walker emphasized that Ukraine's military culture encourages improvisation and innovation, which has allowed it to adapt rapidly to battlefield conditions.
Moreover, Ukraine has targeted Russian logistics companies, such as Wildberries, which not only supplies military gear but also serves as a symbol of the war's impact on Russian civilians. This strategy aims to undermine Russian public perception of the war and disrupt military supply chains.
Russia, in turn, has also evolved its tactics, employing innovations such as drones connected via fiber optic cables to mitigate electronic warfare challenges. The ongoing conflict has led to a constant arms race in drone technology and tactics between both nations.
Walker concluded that while Ukraine's goal is to maintain its sovereignty, Russia's aim of re-establishing control over Ukraine remains difficult to achieve, particularly with the continued support from Western nations.
