The organization has gained visibility this election cycle by supporting candidates with STEM backgrounds who oppose cuts to public health. Joshua Morrow, president of the 314 Action Fund, expressed support for Kelly, stating, "I'd love Mark Kelly to run for president. If Mark Kelly ran, we'd be there day one."
The group has raised over $100 million in the past decade, including $25 million during the 2026 midterms, with a significant portion allocated to this year's Democratic primaries. Kelly has previously participated in events with the 314 Action Fund and was suggested as a potential running mate for former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024, who ultimately chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Morrow highlighted the appeal of scientist candidates, suggesting that voters are seeking alternatives to traditional political candidates. He criticized the Democratic Party for favoring a narrow profile of candidates, stating, "For so long the Democratic Party promoted the same type of candidate and the same type of person, and it's like, that doesn't work."
The 314 Action Fund has a history of receiving funding from AIPAC's super PAC but claims to have ceased accepting funds from the group, which has faced criticism from some Democrats. Kelly's team has not commented on the group's encouragement, although he has indicated that he is seriously considering a presidential run in 2028.
