A 36-year-old man from Florida, Ruben Altidore, has been accused of attacking his sister with a machete while she was sleeping next to her 1-year-old daughter in Margate, approximately 40 miles north of Miami. According to an arrest report, the incident occurred on Monday, during which Altidore allegedly shouted, "Oh my God, why aren’t you dead yet?" while attacking his sister.
Altidore has been charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated child abuse, and violation of probation. His sister survived the attack but sustained serious injuries, including a 10-inch wound on her thigh and multiple lacerations on her hands, with the potential loss of fingers.
The child was found unharmed but covered in blood after the incident. The victim managed to escape and sought help from a neighbor, whose surveillance video captured her screams. A cousin confirmed the attack to investigators, and a neighbor reported hearing her cries for help.
Investigators discovered significant blood in the victim's bedroom and found a machete sheath in the kitchen, with the weapon located under a bed. Altidore is currently being held at the Broward County Main Jail without bond, and the motive for the attack remains unclear.
