President Donald Trump criticized Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed during a speech in Las Vegas on Wednesday, calling him 'full of s---' and asserting that Democrats are moving towards communism. Trump's comments followed El-Sayed's narrow victory over Rep. Haley Stevens in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary, where El-Sayed won by less than one percentage point. He is set to face Republican Mike Rogers in the upcoming election for the seat vacated by retiring Sen. Gary Peters.
During his speech, Trump devoted several minutes to attacking democratic socialist candidates, labeling their ideas as dangerous and claiming that communism poses a significant threat to the United States. He stated, 'Communism is the greatest threat to our country in its history, including even World War One, World War Two, Pearl Harbor, 9/11.' Trump also mocked the implications of communist policies, suggesting they would lead to poverty and suffering.
He cited Venezuela as an example of the consequences of adopting communist policies, stating, 'Look at Venezuela, where it was such a rich country 20 years ago.' Trump concluded by emphasizing his belief that Democrats are trying to bypass socialism and move directly to communism, asserting, 'We’re not letting them have it as a communist country, not even for a minute.' The White House and El-Sayed's campaign did not respond to requests for comment.
