House Ethics Committee recommends censure for Rep. Chuck Edwards

The House Ethics Committee has recommended that Rep. Chuck Edwards, R-N.C., be censured by the full House following findings of persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers. The committee's 25-page report, released after a months-long investigation, stated that Edwards violated the House Code of Official Conduct by not adhering to rules against sexual harassment and unwanted advances. Although the committee found no evidence of sexual activity or quid pro quo harassment, it noted that Edwards' behavior could be interpreted as inappropriate, citing instances of lavish gifts, comments on appearance, and invitations to intimate dinners. A censure vote is expected to take place in September, as the House is currently in recess. Edwards has previously denied any wrongdoing and referred to the allegations as baseless.
