Senator Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, has called for Representative Max Miller, R-Ohio, to resign from Congress and seek psychological help following allegations of domestic abuse made by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno. In a statement posted on X, Moreno stated, "If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them," emphasizing his concerns for his daughter and granddaughter's safety.
Miller's Democratic challenger, Brian Poindexter, also called for his resignation, stating that no one credibly accused of serious abuse should hold office. The allegations include claims of physical assault and threats made by Miller against Emily Moreno, which he has denied, asserting that no legal action has been taken against him regarding these claims.
In response to the allegations, Miller stated that child welfare investigations had cleared him of wrongdoing and accused his ex-wife of using the allegations as leverage in their custody battle. Emily Moreno has publicly criticized Miller's denial, claiming there is substantial evidence of his violent behavior.
The situation has intensified as the deadline approaches for the Republican Party to replace Miller on the November ballot, with Democrats viewing the Ohio district as a potential opportunity amid the controversy. Despite the pressure, Miller has stated he intends to remain in the race, asserting, "I’m not dropping out of this race, and I’ll win in November."
