Despite this, some conservatives expressed dissatisfaction, questioning the consistency of his statements. One user on X asked why Mullin's speech earlier in the day seemed to convey a different message. Former Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino criticized Mullin's remarks, stating that voters have called for mass deportations and suggesting that Mullin's approach was not aligned with that demand. Bovino also commented on Mullin's interview performance, suggesting it was inadequate for addressing immigration issues.
During his speech, Mullin advocated for immigration reform, distinguishing between immigrants seeking legal status and those who are not, and called for changes to employment visa programs to address labor shortages. He noted that actual immigration reform has not occurred since 1959 and highlighted the need for modernized visa programs to support economic growth. Mullin reiterated that immigration laws must be enforced and stated that individuals with criminal backgrounds would not receive exceptions. He concluded by stating that those who entered the country illegally or overstayed their visas without pursuing legal status would not receive relief.
