The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has made public two ransom notes related to the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona-area home nearly six months ago. The department aims to identify the writer of the notes, which contain distinctive patterns of language and provide insight into the writer's mindset and motives.
The first note, addressed to Savannah Guthrie, was received on February 2 and demanded $4 million in bitcoin, stating that Nancy Guthrie was safe but scared. It warned that if payment was not made by a specified deadline, she would be killed. The second note, sent on February 6, indicated that Nancy had died shortly after her abduction and was buried in nature, expressing remorse for her death.
Savannah Guthrie responded to the second note with a video plea for her mother’s return. The sheriff’s department also noted the existence of an unidentified male captured on doorbell camera footage the night of Nancy’s disappearance, as well as a masked individual seen at her residence on a previous day. Investigators are seeking information about this unidentified male and any changes in behavior that may have occurred around the time of the videos. DNA testing from Guthrie’s home has not yet yielded any suspects.
