Trump announces potential agreement for Hamas disarmament and Gaza reconstruction

The White House and President Trump's Board of Peace are anticipating that Hamas may sign an agreement in the coming days to disarm and demilitarize the Gaza Strip, according to four sources familiar with the situation. A signed agreement would represent a significant advancement in Trump's 20-point Gaza peace plan. Two U.S. officials indicated that Hamas has agreed to the terms of the deal, although Israeli officials and Western diplomats express skepticism regarding Hamas's commitment to follow through. Trump stated on Truth Social that the Board of Peace has reached a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, describing it as a monumental step toward lasting peace and security. The U.S.-led Board of Peace, along with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, has been negotiating with Hamas for months to facilitate the demilitarization of Gaza and the transfer of authority to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG). Hamas has been resistant to disarming while seeking to maintain its military power. The agreement emphasizes a unified government and legal system in Gaza, with a structured implementation plan. It requires Hamas to decommission its weapons over six to eight months and provide maps of its military infrastructure. A new Palestinian police force, vetted by Israel's Shin Bet security service, will be established. The agreement also stipulates that Israel would withdraw to the 'Yellow Line' after Hamas surrenders its weapons, with further withdrawals contingent on the agreement's implementation.
