Democrats Marcye Scott and Everton Blair Jr. Advance to Runoff in Georgia's 13th District Special Election

Two Democrats, Marcye Scott and Everton Blair Jr., have advanced to a runoff election in Georgia's 13th District to replace the late Representative David Scott. In the first round of voting, Marcye Scott received 46.8% of the votes, while Blair garnered 36.7%, with 93% of the votes counted. The Republican candidate placed third without reaching double digits. According to Georgia law, if no candidate secures a majority, the top two candidates proceed to a runoff, which is scheduled for August 25. David Scott passed away shortly before the primary election was set to occur. The winner of the runoff will serve in the House for a brief period of nine weeks before the next full term begins in January.
