U.S. Supreme Court Approval Rating Declines to 33%

According to a Gallup poll conducted from July 1-19, 2026, the approval rating of the U.S. Supreme Court has fallen to 33%, a record low, with disapproval rising to 61%. This decline is attributed to a significant drop in approval among Republicans, which decreased from 79% in September 2025 to 58%. The previous low approval rating was 39% recorded a year ago. The Supreme Court made several notable rulings during the 2025-2026 term, some of which were favorable to the Trump administration, such as expanding the president's ability to fire members of independent agencies and upholding state laws regarding female transgender athletes. However, the court also rejected the president's legal basis for imposing tariffs without Congressional authorization and struck down an executive order limiting birthright citizenship. The approval ratings among Democrats and independents remain low, with 12% and 35% respectively, reflecting dissatisfaction with the court's conservative majority. Historically, approval ratings for the Supreme Court have fluctuated based on its ideological composition and significant rulings. The current Republican approval rating is the lowest since September 2023, and the overall dissatisfaction indicates a shift in public perception towards the court's decisions.
