Children's educator and YouTube personality Rachel Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, has made comments regarding the investigation into the death of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old who went missing during a boat trip on July 4. In a social media post, Accurso suggested that the investigation's handling might have differed if the racial dynamics were reversed, stating, "We know the investigation and everything that followed would have been different if Nolan Wells were white and his friends were Black." Wells' remains were found shortly after his disappearance, and an independent autopsy labeled his manner of death as "undetermined."
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing Wells' family, revealed findings at the NAACP National Convention, noting that the autopsy showed no evidence of fractures or deep tissue injuries. The case has led to speculation about the circumstances surrounding Wells' death, particularly regarding the racial composition of those involved. Accurso's comments received mixed reactions, with some supporters echoing her sentiments, while others, including former State Attorney Dave Aronberg, cautioned against making assumptions without evidence.
