Holocaust Museum Invites NYC Mayor Mamdani to Discuss Genocide Claims

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has received an invitation from Jeff Miller, chair of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, to visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. This invitation comes in response to Mamdani's use of the term 'genocide' to describe the situation in Gaza, which has drawn criticism from the Jewish community. Miller stated that understanding the historical context of genocide is important and expressed a willingness to personally guide Mamdani through the museum. He emphasized that while Mamdani is entitled to criticize the Israeli government, there is a distinction between legitimate criticism and rhetoric that could normalize antisemitism. Mamdani has faced backlash for his comments regarding Israel, including calling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a war criminal. The mayor has not publicly responded to the invitation as of yet.
