Couple Found Dead in Guatemala After Deportation Incident

Nixon Giovanni Pérez Paz, 43, and Glendy Marisol González de la Cruz, 25, were found shot and bound in a sugarcane field in Guatemala weeks after González de la Cruz returned to the country following Pérez Paz's deportation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Their 14-month-old daughter was discovered near her mother's body and is recovering from dehydration. The couple had been reported missing on July 20 after leaving home to register a motorcycle. Guatemalan authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding their deaths, which included signs of physical trauma. Rolando Pérez Paz, the brother of Nixon, expressed his grief over the loss, attributing their deaths to the immigration enforcement actions that preceded them. ICE has not commented on the case, and local police stated they were not involved in the deportation. A candlelight vigil is scheduled for August 2 at Overland City Hall.
