Judge Limits BBC's Scope in Trump's Defamation Lawsuit

The judge emphasized that the case will not examine the legality of the Capitol riot itself. Trump's legal team has accused the BBC of attempting to distract from the specific allegations regarding the documentary's editing. The lawsuit, filed in December, seeks damages for defamation and violations of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. The judge's ruling also allows the BBC to investigate the intent behind Trump's speech while limiting the scope of their inquiries into the January 6 events. The controversy surrounding the documentary has previously led to the resignations of BBC executives. The judge ordered Trump to provide financial information related to his businesses, which Trump's team argues is a narrower request than reported. The BBC has contended that the case should be dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction in Florida.
