DoJ Files Lawsuits Against Four States Over ICE License Plates

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has filed lawsuits against Maine, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Washington state. The lawsuits challenge the states' refusal to issue confidential license plates to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. According to the DoJ, these states have historically provided such plates to other law enforcement agencies for undercover operations. The lawsuits were filed after the states, led by Democratic governors, declined to change their policies regarding the issuance of these plates, which ICE seeks to use for arrests as part of immigration enforcement efforts.
