'Weird Al' Yankovic Declines Performance Offer at Saudi Arabia Comedy Festival

Musician 'Weird Al' Yankovic declined an offer reportedly worth seven figures to perform at the inaugural Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia last year. In an interview with the Tribune-Review, Yankovic stated that the idea of accepting payment from Saudi Arabia made him uncomfortable. He mentioned, "I was invited to the Riyadh Comedy Festival, which is something that I obviously did not want to do. They offered me... seven figures to do one show, which is way more than I’ve ever been offered in my life to do a show." Yankovic clarified that he does not criticize performers who chose to participate in the festival, which attracted around 6,000 attendees, but he felt he could not be part of it. He expressed that he does not need to accept money that makes him feel uncomfortable. The comedian also previously turned down an offer for an AI advertisement, stating he wished for opportunities that did not evoke such feelings. The festival received mixed reactions from the comedy community, with notable figures like Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel expressing criticism towards those who performed there.
