A 67-year-old man, David O’Brien, was arrested following an incident involving a 'sugar baby' arrangement that escalated into a confrontation. According to police reports, O’Brien met a young woman on the Tinder dating app and proposed a financial arrangement for companionship. They agreed to meet for dinner on July 21, during which O’Brien provided the woman with $200 and later $600 for purchases at a lingerie store.
The woman reportedly felt uncomfortable at O’Brien's home and contacted her friends for a ride. When she attempted to leave, O’Brien demanded the money back, which she refused. He then pursued her and her friends in his truck, ramming their vehicle and causing it to collide with a pole. O’Brien allegedly confronted one of the friends with a firearm, threatening him before the victim managed to escape.
O’Brien was found by law enforcement at the scene with a gun in his possession. He faces five felony charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and four counts of aggravated battery. He is currently held on a $90,000 bond in the Sumter County jail.
