Disney Announces Job Cuts Amidst Recent Success of 'Toy Story 5'

The Walt Disney Company has announced job cuts affecting hundreds of employees, particularly at Pixar, despite the recent success of 'Toy Story 5.' This marks the third round of layoffs in 2026, impacting divisions including Disney Entertainment Television, Disney Studios, ESPN, and corporate sectors, according to reports. The layoffs primarily affected production and operations at Pixar's studio in Emeryville, California. While Disney has not disclosed the exact number of layoffs, sources indicate that approximately 116 employees were let go. Disney employs around 230,000 people globally as of late 2025. In 2024, Pixar had previously cut about 175 employees, representing roughly 14% of its workforce. Earlier in April, another round of layoffs resulted in the elimination of around 1,000 jobs across various departments. A Disney spokesperson stated that these changes are part of an ongoing evaluation of resource management as the industry evolves. Despite the layoffs, Pixar has upcoming projects, including 'Incredibles 3' and 'Gatto.' Employees were notified of the layoffs on Tuesday morning.
