Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ), according to a source familiar with the matter. The reasons for the investigation have not been disclosed, and the DOJ has not responded to requests for comment. Mills has faced allegations including domestic violence, stolen valor, and financial misconduct, all of which he denies.
The FBI reportedly contacted at least one individual regarding Mills's finances last year. In addition to the DOJ investigation, Mills is also under scrutiny by the House Ethics Committee, which has been investigating him since August 2024. A subcommittee was established in November 2025 to further examine the allegations, which include an incident of alleged domestic violence from February 2025.
Earlier this year, Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) threatened Mills with expulsion, stating that “the swamp has protected Cory Mills for far too long.” Mills is facing three challengers in the upcoming August primary, one of whom, Michael Johnson, previously filed a lawsuit against Mills over his qualification paperwork, but the lawsuit was dismissed by a state judge. Mills's fundraising efforts for his reelection have been challenging, with only $81,000 reported in his campaign account at the end of the second quarter.
