The family of 18-year-old Daniel Erving, whose body was recovered from Lake Ray Hubbard, is calling for murder charges against two teenagers accused of concealing evidence related to his death. Erving was reported missing on April 13 after leaving his home in Rowlett, Texas, and was found three days later, with the Dallas County Medical Examiner ruling his death as accidental drowning.
Dallas police conducted an investigation that included witness interviews and evidence collection. They stated that two individuals present at the lake failed to report the incident and discarded items belonging to Erving. Arrest warrants were issued for Lucas Roper, 19, and a juvenile, both charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a third-degree felony. Both suspects have been arrested, and the case is proceeding through the criminal justice system.
Erving's family, represented by attorney Sean Daredia, has raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death, questioning why the suspects discarded his belongings and did not report the incident. They have retained an independent investigative team and are urging the Dallas County District Attorney's Office to consider additional charges.
The Rowlett Police Department initially handled the investigation before transferring it to the Dallas Police Department, which is now the lead agency. The investigation remains active, and police have stated they cannot release further details at this time.
