House Speaker Mike Johnson and the White House are working to advance a narrow reconciliation bill in the House by the end of next week. The proposed bill is expected to focus primarily on defense and agricultural aid, with limited Republican priorities included. According to multiple sources, the bill will incorporate sections from four committees: the House Administration Committee, the House Armed Services Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Agriculture Committee.
The proposed funding includes $70 billion for defense related to the war in Iran and $20 billion for agricultural relief, along with provisions from the SAVE America Act. Although the SAVE America Act, which is a priority for former President Donald Trump, is anticipated to be removed in the Senate, its inclusion in the House bill may help gain support from conservative members. The White House aims to avoid cuts to facilitate a swift passage through the House, which has a narrow majority.
As of now, the plan remains in development, and adjustments are expected as more members contribute their input. Johnson has previously indicated to some members that the reconciliation package would be substantial, incorporating several Republican priorities that may not pass independently.
