Darline Graham Nordone appointed to fill Senate seat of late brother Lindsey Graham

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, to serve the remainder of her brother's Senate term until January 3. McMaster announced the appointment during a press conference on Monday, where he reflected on Lindsey Graham's contributions. Darline Graham Nordone stated that it is a privilege to continue her brother's work and pledged to support the president and the citizens of South Carolina. Lindsey Graham passed away on July 8 due to aortic dissection linked to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. President Donald Trump recommended Graham Nordone for the position earlier on the same day. Senator Tim Scott expressed his support for her appointment, highlighting her understanding of her brother's values. Graham Nordone is expected to be sworn in on Wednesday. Following Lindsey Graham's death, a special primary election is scheduled for August 11 to fill the Senate seat, with several candidates expressing interest in running, including current House representatives and the Lieutenant Governor.
