Kenneth Iwamasa Sentenced for Conspiracy to Distribute Ketamine to Matthew Perry

<p>Kenneth Iwamasa, the live-in assistant of actor Matthew Perry, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison on Wednesday for conspiring to distribute ketamine, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. In addition to the prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett imposed a $10,000 fine.</p><p>Iwamasa, 61, was found to have injected Perry with ketamine, including the dose that led to Perry's death in October 2023. Victim impact statements from Perry's sisters, Caitlin and Madeline Morrison, highlighted their feelings of betrayal, with Madeline stating that she felt as though her brother had died again upon learning of Iwamasa's actions.</p><p>Madeline described Iwamasa's behavior at Perry's funeral as unsettling, noting that he spoke to those mourning Perry while being responsible for his death. Perry's mother, Suzanne, criticized Iwamasa for failing in his role as Perry's guardian in his battle against addiction.</p><p>Iwamasa was the last of five defendants sentenced in connection with Perry's death, which included individuals involved in the distribution of ketamine. Perry died on October 28, 2023, after an apparent drowning in a hot tub at his home. The U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Martin Estrada, reported that the defendants had distributed approximately 20 vials of ketamine to Perry for around $50,000.</p><p>Over a month leading up to Perry's death, Iwamasa procured over $55,000 worth of ketamine. He was instructed by Dr. Salvador Plasencia on how to administer the drug to Perry, who had been introduced to Plasencia by Iwamasa. The day before Perry's death, Plasencia communicated with Iwamasa about the supply of ketamine.</p><p>Iwamasa pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death on August 7.</p>
