On Saturday, President Donald Trump held a conference call with leaders from several Middle Eastern nations, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan, to discuss a potential agreement involving the United States and Iran. The call began at 1 p.m. and was reported by Axios and Reuters.
A senior Israeli official indicated that Israel was aware of the discussions, noting that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides were in communication with the White House regarding developments in the ongoing conflict. Trump is reportedly weighing whether to pursue a deal or resume military actions against Iran, stating he is 'solid 50/50' on the options.
Trump mentioned, 'Either we reach a good deal, or I’ll blow them to a thousand hells,' as he considers his next steps. A decision may come by Sunday after meetings with Middle East special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law. Vice President JD Vance is also expected to participate in the discussions.
Vance returned unexpectedly to Washington, D.C., after being aboard Air Force Two. Trump canceled a planned trip to his golf club in New Jersey and skipped his son’s wedding in the Bahamas due to rising tensions with Iran. U.S. officials also postponed their Memorial Day weekend plans in light of possible military action against Iran, as reported by CBS News.
In response to the situation, Iran has closed its airspace over the western part of the country until Monday. Pakistan continues to facilitate discussions aimed at reaching an agreement to end the conflict, with Pakistani army chief Asim Munir recently leaving Tehran after talks with Iranian officials.
During a visit to India, Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that a decision regarding Iran might be announced soon, stating, 'There might be some news a little later today.' He added that progress is being made and emphasized the urgency of resolving the issue.
