Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms are campaigning together in Georgia as their GOP opponents prepare for primary runoff elections. Over the next three weeks, Republican candidates Burt Jones and Rick Jackson for governor, along with Mike Collins and Derek Dooley for the Senate, will compete for their party's nominations ahead of the June 16 runoff date. Ossoff and Bottoms aim to highlight Democratic unity during this period.
Ossoff stated, "Mayor Bottoms and I will be proceeding together, united and determined." Their first rally is scheduled for Sunday in Atlanta, focusing on economic and healthcare issues. Bottoms secured over 56% of the Democratic primary vote on May 19, avoiding a runoff, while Ossoff faced no challengers.
In the GOP gubernatorial race, Trump-endorsed Jones received 38% of the vote, leading to a runoff against Jackson, who garnered over 33%. In the Senate primary, Collins received 40.5% and will face Dooley, who received 30.2% and is endorsed by Governor Brian Kemp.
Current polling indicates that both Ossoff and Bottoms are leading their respective races by single-digit margins. However, the state remains a battleground, as Trump won Georgia in the 2024 elections with 50.7% of the vote compared to Kamala Harris's 48.5%.
