U.S. Senate Committee Investigates Momcozy Over Data Privacy Concerns

<p>Momcozy, a company known for its breast pumps, is under scrutiny due to potential connections with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and concerns regarding the handling of customer data. As a Chinese-based company, Momcozy may be subject to Chinese laws that require sharing information with the government.</p><p>U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, expressed concerns about the implications for customer privacy in a letter to Momcozy. He highlighted previous instances where foreign entities, including China, have attempted to exploit U.S. laws to gather sensitive information.</p><p>The HELP Committee has initiated an investigation following a report from the U.S. Department of Education that indicated foreign entities aligned with the CCP were attempting to influence American universities. Cassidy noted that the sharing of private information could pose risks not only to parents but also to their children.</p><p>In his letter, Cassidy emphasized the need to protect families from potential misuse of their information, particularly regarding the safety of children. The HELP Committee has requested clarification from Momcozy's CEO, Athena Pan, on how the company safeguards the privacy of its users.</p><p>The committee's inquiry includes questions about the types of personal information collected, the company's operations in China, and the protocols in place to protect user data. Specifically, they are seeking answers about whether Momcozy has shared any information with the CCP or the Chinese government in the past five years and what measures are taken to prevent unauthorized access to this information.</p><p>The HELP Committee has set a deadline of July 6, 2026, for Momcozy to respond to their inquiries. Momcozy has not yet commented on the situation.</p>
