Shooting incident in Midland, Texas results in one death and ten injuries

On Friday in Midland, Texas, an active shooter situation resulted in at least one death and ten injuries, according to Mayor Lori Blong. Authorities reported that shots were fired from a building near West Wall Street, and there is one known suspect whose motivations remain unclear. The investigation is ongoing. Mayor Blong stated, "We will not confirm additional details until law enforcement has completed a thorough review and all facts are established." Law enforcement established a perimeter around the area, with police dispatched at 8:03 a.m. Central Time. The situation reportedly began in Southeast Midland and progressed across South Midland. Armored units were deployed, and efforts to resolve the standoff with the shooter are ongoing. Following the incident, Midland Memorial Hospital was placed on lockdown, which has since been lifted, and a family reunification center was opened in the hospital's chapel.
