The South Florida region of Border Patrol has seen a significant increase in illegal immigrant arrests, now rivaling traditional hotspots like Texas, Arizona, and California. According to data from Customs and Border Protection, between March 2025 and April 2026, Border Patrol agents apprehended a total of 125,199 individuals across the Mexican, Canadian, and coastal borders, with 12,599 arrests occurring in the Miami region, accounting for 10% of the total arrests.
Most of the individuals arrested in South Florida have been turned over to Border Patrol by local and state police, following a directive from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis that allows state troopers to assist federal immigration authorities. This cooperation has led to a surge in apprehensions, with the Florida Highway Patrol reporting over 10,690 illegal aliens arrested since March 2025, including more than 2,140 with criminal histories.
The Florida Highway Patrol, along with local law enforcement, has encountered a total of 26,200 illegal immigrants between August 1, 2025, and June 10, 2026, resulting in 21,240 arrests. Those who are not turned over to immigration authorities may face state criminal charges.
