Wisconsin Republicans Criticize Sean Duffy Over Son-in-Law’s Congressional Bid

Wisconsin Republicans have expressed concerns regarding Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's involvement in his son-in-law Michael Alfonso's candidacy for Congress. Alfonso, 26, is one of five Republicans competing in the primary for Wisconsin's 7th District, which is being vacated by Rep. Tom Tiffany. Duffy previously held this seat from 2011 to 2019. Conservative podcaster Meg Ellefson criticized Duffy's actions, stating she is 'utterly disgusted by this blatant manipulation of voters' and is supporting a rival candidate. Duffy has reportedly influenced the race by directing $1 million from his former congressional account to a super PAC supporting Alfonso and securing an endorsement from former President Trump. Alfonso has raised over $50,000 from PACs associated with the transportation industry, and Delta Air Lines hosted a fundraiser for him in December. Duffy's spokesperson stated that he supports Alfonso in a personal capacity, while Alfonso's campaign has dismissed the criticism, claiming he has garnered support from conservative leaders and grassroots activists.
