Steve Hilton advances to California gubernatorial general election

Steve Hilton, a conservative commentator, will compete in California's gubernatorial general election against Xavier Becerra, the former Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Joe Biden. Hilton, who received 25% of the vote in the open primary, was endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Becerra led the primary with 27.9% of the vote, according to the Associated Press, which reported the results on Tuesday evening with 88% of the votes counted. Hilton surpassed billionaire Democrat Tom Steyer, who received 22.6% of the vote.
