Tiger Woods issued his first public statement in nearly two months on Memorial Day, expressing gratitude to those who have made sacrifices for the country. He highlighted his late father, Earl Woods, who served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. In his message on X, Woods stated, "My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service. To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth."
Woods had not been heard from since March 31, when he announced he would be stepping away to seek treatment following a car accident and DUI arrest on March 27. He faced two misdemeanor charges but recorded a 0.00 on both breathalyzer tests. Woods was granted permission to travel abroad for inpatient treatment on April 1. He was recently spotted back in Florida but returned to Switzerland to continue his rehabilitation. His brief trip to Florida coincided with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump's, announcement of her breast cancer diagnosis, where she referred to Woods as her "strength." Woods has not played competitively since the 2024 Open Championship in Scotland.
