A Southwest Airlines flight attendant, Jenny Lupton, 50, died by suicide after her body was found beside a dumpster outside the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Hawaii. The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Lupton died from multiple injuries sustained from falling from the 24th floor of the hotel on August 20. Lupton, who was from Oklahoma and a mother of a 15-year-old son, was on a layover while working for the airline.
Initially, investigators informed Lupton’s family that she had fallen from her room’s balcony. Her family expressed doubts about the circumstances of her death, believing she did not intend to take her own life and requested a police investigation. The Honolulu Police Department opened an investigation on August 24, which remains ongoing despite the medical examiner's ruling.
The police stated they are conducting interviews, reviewing surveillance footage, and examining evidence. Tresa Lupton, Jenny's sister, expressed her belief that her sister's death was either an accident or the result of foul play. She noted that Jenny had been enjoying her time in Hawaii, communicating with her family about her activities, including getting a tattoo shortly before her death.
Jenny Lupton had a nearly three-decade career as a flight attendant, primarily with Southwest Airlines. Following her death, the airline expressed condolences and stated they are cooperating with local authorities in the investigation.
