A Texas man stole nearly $2,000 worth of emergency medication from the wheelchair of a terminally ill boy at the State Fair on October 6. The boy's mother, Kayla Price, reported that her purse, containing two doses of medication used to stop her son Devin Cervantes's seizures and $1,500 in cash, was taken while she briefly attended to her older son. Price stated, "The potential of my son having a seizure and me not having that medication … it sucks."
Devin, 3, has terminal brain cancer and has undergone six rounds of chemotherapy and 45 radiation treatments. Price described her son as a cheerful boy who enjoys dancing and watching Spider-Man and SpongeBob SquarePants. She expressed her distress over the theft, emphasizing the pain it caused her family and pleaded for the thief to return her belongings.
After the theft, Devin suffered a prolonged seizure on October 9, prompting Price to seek help to replace the medication. Chris Bailey, a Dallas resident and member of the Everybody Love Everybody Facebook group, learned of the incident and donated $2,000 to help the family cover the cost of the medicine. "I sent her the money yesterday, and she immediately went to the pharmacy and filled it," Bailey said. Price expressed gratitude, stating, "That medicine gave me a couple more days, a couple of more weeks, hopefully, and I am so glad." Bailey also mentioned plans to meet Devin and provide him with an early Christmas gift.
