Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has reached a tentative agreement to settle a civil lawsuit related to an incident involving a 69-year-old truck driver, Perry Tole, in Indianapolis last year, according to court documents. The proposed settlement follows Sanchez's agreement to plead guilty to charges stemming from the alleged assault on Tole in October 2025.
Tole claimed he was left permanently disfigured from the incident, which occurred when Sanchez allegedly attacked him after he parked his truck to collect cooking oil from a hotel on October 10, 2025. Court documents indicate that Sanchez, Tole, and Fox Corporation, which employed Sanchez at the time, reached an agreement in principle on October 3, with filings made in the Southern District of Indiana on October 6.
Tole's attorneys are expected to file a motion to dismiss the case by January 8, 2027, once the settlement is finalized. The incident reportedly involved Tole stabbing Sanchez multiple times during the altercation. Footage from the scene showed a bloodied Sanchez, who was described by police as smelling of alcohol, emerging from the alley into a nearby bar.
Sanchez faced multiple charges, including battery resulting in serious bodily injury and public intoxication. On September 2, Sanchez's attorneys and Indiana state prosecutors filed a joint motion to vacate a trial date set for September 8, indicating plans for a guilty plea and sentencing hearing, though it remains unclear which charges Sanchez intends to plead guilty to.
Nick Sanchez Jr., a legal advisor for Sanchez, expressed optimism regarding the civil matter, stating that there is momentum toward resolving the situation. Matt Golitko, an attorney for Tole, noted that discussions have been productive and are moving toward an amicable resolution. Attorneys for both parties did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
