<p>Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., is facing scrutiny regarding her immigration history after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., home. Reports indicate that federal investigators have issued subpoenas to her sister, Sahra Noor, and at least one other family member as part of an examination into potential fraud and false statements in immigration paperwork, according to The New York Times.</p><p>Fox News has reported that multiple family members of Omar have received subpoenas. Additionally, the New York Post noted that Omar's staff requested a change to her birth year from 1981 to 1982 in May 2019, a discrepancy that has been questioned by a former political opponent regarding her citizenship account.</p><p>The search of Omar's home was part of an ongoing criminal investigation involving her immigration paperwork, as confirmed by sources familiar with the probe. The Justice Department stated that agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant as part of the investigation.</p><p>Omar has denied any wrongdoing related to her immigration status and has accused the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement against her. She stated, "I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement." Omar also emphasized that she has been subjected to baseless lies and smear campaigns for years.</p><p>Emails reviewed by the Post revealed that Omar’s congressional staff contacted the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library to request the correction of her birth year. The library's director confirmed that the original entry was based on reference sources and not on a birth certificate or other documentation.</p><p>The investigation is looking into the immigration history of Omar’s family, including whether her late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, provided false information on immigration forms. However, the investigation's scope remains unclear, and grand jury subpoenas do not imply that the recipients are suspected of wrongdoing.</p><p>Previous federal inquiries into Omar’s immigration history have not resulted in charges. The current developments coincide with a separate investigation by U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro into Omar’s financial disclosures, which have raised questions regarding the reported value of businesses tied to her husband.</p><p>Omar amended her financial filings in April, reducing the couple’s reported assets significantly.
