A woman has been arrested after injuring three individuals in a knife attack at a school in Warsaw, Poland. The 21-year-old suspect used a "dangerous object" to attack a 17-year-old girl at the educational institution, according to police reports from news agencies PAP and AP. This incident marks the third knife attack at schools in Poland within a week.
The attack occurred a day after a significant police presence was deployed to schools across the country following two earlier stabbing incidents, one of which resulted in the death of a female caretaker. A spokesperson for the Warsaw police stated they could not confirm whether this latest incident was connected to the previous attacks.
Authorities reported that the 17-year-old victim was taken to the hospital, and her injuries were not life-threatening. Additionally, two other women, aged 17 and 24, were injured while submitting enrollment documents at the school. Police indicated that the suspected attacker was a student at the institution and initial findings suggested she did not know the victims.
In response to the recent violence, schools in Poland had increased security measures. Polish police reported detaining 76 individuals following the deployment to schools nationwide. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the importance of safety for children in schools, stating, "When it comes to the safety of Polish children and peace in our schools, there is no room for compromise."
Local media, citing police sources, mentioned that there were indications the recent incidents could be linked to an internet challenge. Earlier in the week, a 19-year-old student injured nine people in a vocational school in the Mazovian province, and a day later, a 15-year-old was involved in the fatal stabbing of a caretaker at a primary school in Leszczydół-Nowiny, north of Warsaw. Additionally, Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński reported that a 17-year-old was detained in Sierpc for allegedly threatening to harm someone on school grounds.
