Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix sprint race on Saturday, marking his first victory of any kind in Singapore. Verstappen, driving for Red Bull, finished 2.50 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton of Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc in third place. The race was affected by a crash involving George Russell, who was leading at the end of the opening lap when he lost control of his Mercedes and collided with the pit lane wall, prompting a safety car deployment.
The race began after a 30-minute delay due to heavy rain that occurred 10 minutes before the scheduled start. All cars started on intermediate tyres, and conditions varied across the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Russell started on the front row alongside Verstappen but lost control after touching a white line on the final bend of the opening lap. This incident added to Russell's challenging season, as he is set to start from the back of the grid in the main Grand Prix due to engine penalties.
Hamilton capitalized on Russell's misfortune, moving from sixth on the grid to second place after overtaking Leclerc and the two McLarens. The collision between McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri on the final lap allowed Kimi Antonelli, who started seventh, to finish fourth in his Mercedes. Liam Lawson from Red Bull finished fifth, followed by Oliver Bearman from Haas in sixth, Nico Hulkenberg from Audi in seventh, and Norris managed to recover to finish eighth, securing points for the team.
