Dylan Sebock, a 23-year-old defensive end at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, was killed in a rollover crash early Thursday in Texas. The driver, De’Taurean Johnson, a linebacker and teammate of Sebock, has been arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
The Sebock family confirmed his death to KXII 12. Sherman, Texas, police responded to multiple calls regarding a one-vehicle rollover crash shortly before 1 a.m. on Thursday. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle, with Sebock found approximately 15 feet west of the service road on U.S. Highway 75.
Johnson was located lying in the roadway and fled on foot when the first responding officer arrived. He was later apprehended and is currently held in the Grayson County Jail after being treated at a local hospital.
Investigators from Sherman’s Critical Accident Investigation Team collected evidence indicating that Johnson was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
Southeastern Oklahoma State University issued a statement regarding the incident, expressing sadness over the loss of one student and confirming that the other was hospitalized. The university is providing support to those affected by the tragedy.
The Sebock family also released a statement, expressing their grief: "There is a hole in our family that can never be filled. No parent should ever have to bury their child. No family should have to receive the news that someone they love isn’t coming home because another person made the decision to drink and drive."
