Former CNN anchor Don Lemon stated there is up to a 70% chance he will run for president, contributing to speculation about his potential candidacy for the White House in 2028.

Lemon expressed confidence in July that he would make a "good president" after gaining national attention for covering a protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minnesota.

During an appearance on Spencer Macnaughton’s podcast, Lemon compared himself to other political candidates, stating he feels he connects with people in similar ways. He mentioned the likelihood of a presidential bid, saying it is a 65% or 70% chance, "if the people want me."

He remarked, "When I’m out there, I cover the candidates, and I look at what they do, and they’re very good. It makes me wonder my best way of being and operating in this society, whether it is through journalism or if it is through becoming the president of the United States."

Lemon acknowledged his current commitments but emphasized the significance of his work in journalism and its impact on culture and society.

His visibility increased after a January 18 incident where he participated in a protest at Cities Church in St. Paul, targeting a pastor associated with ICE. Lemon claimed he was acting in a freelance reporting capacity during the event.

The government characterized Lemon's actions as crossing the line from reporting to protesting, which they argued violated the First Amendment rights of worship and freedom of religion. Lemon contended that his actions were protected under the First Amendment's provisions for the press and protesters.

Lemon faced charges of conspiring to interfere with religious rights and violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. He has pleaded not guilty and sought to dismiss the case in August.

After a court appearance in January, Lemon stated, "I will not be silenced. I have spent my entire career covering the news. I will not stop now." He added that the current moment is critical for a free and independent media that holds those in power accountable.
