The Victorian, a well-known bar in Santa Monica, is set to close after 20 years of operation. The establishment, located in a three-story mansion on Main Street, announced its closure on Instagram, stating it will have four weekends left before its final event, an annual Halloween party. The Victorian has been a venue for various social gatherings, including first dates, celebrations, and parties, featuring events like Salsa Thursdays with lessons and dancing until 1:30 a.m.
Following its closure, the property will undergo renovations to become an exclusive private members club, as per Santa Monica City Council records. In March, the council voted unanimously to transfer the lease to The Santamonican Club, LLC, which plans to create a family-oriented recreation and wellness destination. The renovation will include a new pool, spa, fitness center, restaurant, and youth facilities, with the project expected to take 12 to 18 months. The operator will finance the improvements without public subsidies or rent credits. The property encompasses 50,418 square feet, including the building and outdoor areas. This transformation marks a significant change for the location, moving from a nightlife venue to a family-focused facility. The closure of The Victorian occurs amid challenges in the LA hospitality industry, with many establishments facing economic pressures.
